Printing model layer offset (a.k.a. misalignment, lost step, out-of-step) problems

2024-01-19

There are 4 reasons for the problem:

1. The print head is moving too fast

A: The print speed or air travel speed exceeds the speed that the stepper motor can handle, the problem of misalignment will occur. The solution to this problem is also very simple, lower air walking speed. If necessary, you need to adjust the acceleration down as well.

2. Loose machine belt

A: The belt drive mechanism will generally have to adjust the degree of belt tension of the agency, the belt will be adjusted tighter can be solved. But pay attention to one point, if the adjustment is too tight, it will form a huge resistance between the rotor shaft and bearings or may not be able to rotate. So the degree of loosening and tightening needs to be moderate.

3. Loose body screw (top wire)

A: This small screw is used to fix the pulley on the stepper motor shaft, so that the pulley rotates with the motor shaft, but if this screw is loose, the shaft will rotate and the wheel will not. This situation can also cause the problem of layer offset.

4. Insufficient motor power supply current or motor driver chip overheating

A: It is possible that the stepper motor supply current is insufficient, resulting in the stepper motor not having enough power to overcome the resistance. It is also possible that the stepper motor driver chip is overheating, causing the stepper motor to stop rotating before the chip cools down.
